Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to attend the XXII ICORS meeting August 8-13, 2010 to be held in Boston, USA. ICORS was last held at a site in North America in 1996 (Pittsburgh, PA). Since that time ICORS meetings have been held in Europe (2002), Africa (1998), Asia (2006) and Australia (2004). London, England was the site of ICORS XXI in 2008. Thus, it is long past due for this international meeting to be held in the USA and we are honored to host ICORS XXII in Boston in 2010.

The Boston area is world renowned for its concentration of prestigious academic centers and is one of the main "university cities" in the USA. It has been described as the “Athens of America”, boasting more than 70 universities and colleges in the immediate environs. In addition, the Boston area contains one of the highest concentrations of technology development companies in the country. In short, Boston offers one of the densest environments of scientists and engineers in America. The scientific program will follow recent traditions and will include a variety of current topics involving cutting edge research that employ the Raman effect

Boston offers a rich historical and cultural setting for the ICORS meeting site. Boston was one of America’s first cities and played a pivotal role in the birth of the United States. Many world class museums, galleries, music and sporting venues, restaurants and shopping areas can be found close to the downtown Boston area. Flying into Boston’s Logan International airport, located just 2 –3 miles from the heart of the city make it a readily accessible destination by direct flight from major cities in Europe and Asia and from within the US. In addition, Boston is a gateway to some of the most renown and summer resort areas in the country, including Cape Cod and the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. The possibility for conferees to extend their visit to include an August vacation in the Northeast is something to be seriously considered. The average August temperature in Boston is a comfortable 72 oF. In short, we are confident that the charm and attractions of historic Boston will create an enjoyable environment to support this world class scientific conference.
